Google URL shortener free? Use Gcut for new links

A search for a Google URL shortener free usually means goo.gl. Google stopped accepting new URLs to shorten in 2018. You cannot open a Google page today and create a fresh free short link. For a new link, use the free URL shortener at https://gcut.in/.
What happened to goo.gl
Google kept serving old goo.gl links after it stopped creating new ones. In 2024 it warned that support would end. On 1 August 2025 Google changed that plan: links that already showed “This link will no longer work in the near future” were the ones set to stop after 25 August 2025. Links that still redirected with no warning were kept.
That update does not bring the creator back. There is still no free Google URL shortener for a link you need this week.
Replace a new link, not every old one
- If an old goo.gl link still opens the right page with no warning, Google said it can keep working. You do not have to replace it today.
- If it shows a shutdown warning, or it no longer redirects, create a new short link and update the places you control: bios, emails, and buttons.
- Printed goo.gl codes that already failed need a new QR. A new Gcut link can be that replacement.
Create the replacement on Gcut
Paste the original long URL — the page goo.gl used to open — into https://gcut.in/. Gcut gives you a gcut.in link without a payment. Guests can make up to 5 links. A verified free account can make up to 30, and those free links stay active for 30 days.
Copy the new link into the post, bio, or button that used to point at Google. Open it once before you publish.
